Anyone see Nigel Lythgoe's interview on American Idol Extra? He pointed out that Simon was quick to take some of the credit for Chris' performance last Tuesday. Then, on Wednesday, when Chris was in the bottom three, Simon simply said, "I wasn't the one singing the song." Nigel said if Simon's going to lead these contestants down certain paths (i.e. when he told Chris he was being too indulgent), he's also going to have to take some of the blame when they land in the bottom three.
Although many people agree, on these forums, that Nigel sucks at theme selection, kudos to him for putting Simon on the spot! Hey, Simon, how about setting aside some of your wit (not all of it, because we do like it) and offering some constructive criticism?

Simon doesn't strike me as someone with any integrity, so when he said that I wasn't surprised.

I don't think Simon's comments have anything to do with a lack of integrity, he simply has what is often called "executive memory"; perfectly willing to stand up and take credit when things go well, indifferent and/or anxious to find a scapegoat when things don't.
It's like that hilarious Fedex Commerical with the cavemen. The boss is upset and fires the worker because his package didn't get there overnight. The employee protests there was no possible way for him to send it overnight because "Fedex hasn't been invented yet". The bosses response is "Not my problem."
Simon should have "manned up" and taken at least a little bit of the heat for Chris struggling last week, but technically he was correct, if Chris had done a better job performing perhaps he would have gathered more votes.

Yes, I saw that interview. I thought what he said about Simon was right on, however, the genre of song wasn't very flexible, so Simon should not be able to take credit for Chris breaking out of his rocker mold.
Simon about Chris: Have to give you credit, you are the only idol we have ever had that refused to compromise.
Simon about Chris: That was self indulgent
Ahhh Simon? So which is it?
Simon calling someone "indulgent" is like the head of General Motors complaining about overpaid CEO's......................
