Paul Ellis is one of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected music industry figures. In a career spanning nearly 20 years, Paul has been critical to the success of top-selling artists in both local and international markets.
Since May 2004, Paul has been managing NZ Idol winner Ben Lummis and runner-up Michael Murphy. Ben’s single, 'They Can't Take That Away', was the highest-selling New Zealand single of 2004 and his album 'One Road' went double platinum. Michael Murphy’s single 'So Damn Beautiful' also went platinum.
In 1991, Paul was appointed to Sony Music as General Manager A&R and Music Publishing New Zealand. He quickly signed some of this country's most enduring talent, overseeing the considerable successes of Dave Dobbyn, Strawpeople, The Exponents, ENZSO and this country's biggest selling act of all time, Bic Runga.
These local successes earned the attention of Sony Head Office and in 1996 Paul was appointed Vice President of A & R for Sony Music Publishing in New York where he was responsible for signing Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan, whose last two albums sold over 11 million records in the United
