Paula Abdul back in the news

August 11th, 2005

The public wishes to hear all the gossip behind the sexual behavior of Paula Abdul and Corey Clark; but American Idol is more concerned over allegations by Clark that he received “additional coaching and assistance that the other contestants did not receive that season.”

American Idol is taking the whole incident more seriously than some believed. Executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe stated “We have pledged to look into Corey’s allegations in a complete and comprehensive manner, and that is exactly what we are doing,”

The producers of the hit show American Idol have hired “independent counsel” to investigate the allegations concerning Cory Clark’s allegations. Fox Entertainment President Peter Liguori stated that “Any allegations against this show we take quite seriously,” and that the credibility of the competition is “extraordinarily important to us.”

Corey Clark in July promised to aid American Idol in any possible way he did add it was “the only way we can be sure there actually will be an investigation.” Not only has Clark been questioned, but Paula Abdul and other witnesses as well. The results are due to be announced soon and will be made public.

At this time, the fate of Paula Abdul has not been decided, but Fox has not in any way left Paula out to dry. Paula will be working on a weekly segment of “So You Think You Can Dance” in which she will show regular folks the art of dancing like the professionals.

The judge we all hate, Simon Cowell involved in a lawsuit

August 11th, 2005

Wednesday, Jean Golden and Todd Walker accused Simon Cowell of stealing “Million Dollar Idea, in a lawsuit filed in a California federal court. Their allegations state that Cowell, his production company, and the ABC television network “hijacked” their idea and came up with a television series with the same exact name and format.

“We were taken aback to see our brand so brazenly stolen by corporate giants,” Walker said in a statement. Added Golden: “What has happened to us is every inventor-entrepreneur’s worst nightmare.”

The series involved in the lawsuit is “Million Dollar Idea” which debuted in 2003 on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and now can be seen on around 125 stations nationwide. The show showcases inventors which compete for a $50,000 prize package that will enable them to take their inventions to market.

Stated in the lawsuit, Golden and Walker claim that they gave the idea of Million Dollar Idea to ABC last year by sending the network their plan for a national version of the show. When they saw the announcement of the new reality series and that Simon Cowell had signed as the executive producer they were shocked. The ABC executive that made this announcement was the same one in which they pitched their idea last year as they stated.

“In their suit, Golden and Walker accuse Cowell, the network and the production company of trademark infringement, copyright infringement and breach of confidence. The pair seeks unspecified damages, costs and attorneys’ fees.”
