American Idol uses Military Airport for transportation

Yes, one of our favorite American Idol stars, 18 year old Diana DeGarmo traveled by military aircraft during a USO tour.

Diana DeGarma along with Reggie McFadden (comedian) and Michael Peterson (country music singer) traveled to several U.S. bases throughout eastern Africa and the Middle East. They traveled in a delegation, which was led by the General Peter Pace the chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The United Service Organization tour began at an air base close to Doha, Qatar and stopped in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Djibouti and even the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier in the central Arabian Gulf. The complete tour lasted one week.

Diana DeGarma was if you remember from last year the runner up to Fantasia Barrino on American Idol.

She did explain that the tour was tiring sometimes mainly when they did two shows in one day. She also commented that she really enjoyed the time spent on tour and that it did make her more aware of the hardships that face American troops.

“I learned that there’s more to this war than sending troops overseas,” she said. “They’re missing so much and risking their lives.”

Diana DeGarma brought her mother along with her on the tour who also happens to be her manager. At every performance she asked that volunteers from the audience come to the stage for a dance contest and she closed every performance with the song “America the Beautiful.”

Her weirdest moments was performing for cold and shivering troops in Baghdad at Camp Victory with those helicopters flying over their heads and people shouting. She even spent a night in a former palace of Saddam Hussein.
