Christened as Tremaine Aldon Neverson, Trey Songz was born on November 28, 1984 in Petersburg, Virginia and is one of the most promising singers and songwriters in the Rhythm & Blues genre.
Tremaine was a child who was introduced to music by his mother's encouragement to develop his natural musical talent. First contact with an audience came when Trey began to participate regularly in local talent shows, winning many of them.
R. Kelly and Luther Vandross were the singers that influenced him to point his steps to R&B rather than hip-hop. Digging father, Trey also found himself immersed in other early influences coming form Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson, artists that his mother used to play.
Tremaine met producer Troy Taylor at age 15 and this was another lucky encounter towards his own musical career. Troy was Patti Labelle's producer and worked for Whitney Houston and Lionel Ritchie. Taylor was impressed with Trey's tenor voice but wisely advised him to focus his efforts on popular music and working together and producing demo recordings in New Jersey and New York.
In fact, Trey Songz moved to New Jersey after his graduation and formally began his music career. Taylor became Trey's tutor and was polishing his talent at a time that Trey became his vocal production assistant earning studio technical experience.
By 2004, Trey Songz was signed to Atlantic Records and Trey's "I Gotta Make It" debut album was released the following year, an album that hit the Billboard's top 100 chart and eventually the Hot Rhythm & Blues/Hip-hop Chart.
Following the success of his fist album, Trey found himself working on numerous projects for other R&B groups and soloists, the same as writer and producer, and then working on a bilingual project for the Japanese R&B singer AI. Trey Songz and AI sang together at the Japan's MTV Awards that won "Best R&B Music Video'" for Ai's single "Story".
Trey Songz's second album was scheduled to be released in June 2007, but it was pushed to October. In the meantime, Trey collaborated with Mexican Kabah's ex-singer Maria José, with whom he recorded "Quien eres tú", Trey's first Spanish song hit.
