Chicago, Illinois has been the cradle of great American musicians for many decades and the turn of the century just confirmed this. Rise Against is a band, which was formed in this city in 1999 when Joe Principe invited Tim McIlrath to participate in a punk melodic hardcore project.
Rise Against's incorporated into the band ex-members of the 88 Fingers Louie, including Joe Principe (bass & vocals), Dan Precision (guitar & vocals), Kevin White (guitar), and Tony Tintari (drums). With this lineup the band released in 2000 a demo EP entitled "Transistor Revolt".
In 2001, Rise Against signed with Fat Wreck Chords, an independent record label based in San Francisco that released the band's debut album, "The Unraveling" produced by punk Mass Giorgini. That same year Dan Precision left the band and Todd Mohney took his place.
The band worked hard touring across the country and a new album entitled "Revolutions Per Minute" was released in 2003 followed by a gig in the Warped Tour playing on the stage with Mad Caddies, AFI, Agnostic Front, Strung Out, NOFX, Sick Of It All, and No Use for a Name.
However, Rise Against began their road to stardom after signing to DreamWorks, the Geffen Records company for their new album "Siren Song of the Counter Culture" released in August 2004, hitting the Billboard charts for the first time. The next year "The Unraveling" re-released with new bonus tracks added.
Rise Against hit the Billboard top-ten with their fourth album "The Sufferer & the Witness" released in 2006, and it was followed by a new Warped Tour act that hooked them up to with Billy Talent and Thursday.
Groups such as Joan of Arc, Cap ‘n Jazz, Anti-Flag, and Born heavily influenced the social vision of the band’s music, but with a unique sound that differentiates them from all the others. As of today, there is a videography of the band that was put into a DVD.
Rise Against has also developed a niche within the extreme sport sub-culture, at a time that their songs have also being included in numerous video games and DVD’s featuring sports and TV Shows.
