Newsboys Biography

The band Newsboys was formed in Australia in 1985 and the members are Sean Taylor, John James, George Perdikis, and Peter Furler. They were first called “The News” but after coming to United States there was a conflict with another band and their name, so that’s when they changed it to Newsboys. For the last two decades, they have been one of the most popular Christian bands around.

In 1987, they signed with Refuge Communications and released their album titled, “Read All About It” in 1988. After this, they signed with Star Song Communications and released, “Hell Is For Wimps” and “Boys Will Be Boyz” in 1990 and 1991. The three albums did not receive much attention.

They were finally noticed when they released “Not Ashamed” in 1992, especially by the Christian music scene. Then in 1994, they released “Going Public” and this one became their first successful album. It even won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year in 1995.

They had several number one singles including "Spirit Thing", "Let It Rain", and "Shine". “Shine” was a huge hit for and was the most recognized song by the Christian music scene. “Going Public” made the Newsboys one of the top Christian Bands ever.

They went on to release “Take Me To Your leader” in 1996, “Step Up to the Microphone” in 1998, “Love Liberty Disco” in 1999, “Shine: The Hits in 2000, Adoration: The Worship Album” in 2003, “Devotion” in 2004, “He Reigns: The Worship Collection” in 2005 and “GO” in 2006. In 2007, they released a remix of “Go” and a Greatest hits album. They have also made fourteen music videos as well as releasing six DVD’s.

Newsboys have also been nominated 4 times for Grammy’s and received 23 Dove awards, One billboard award, two international angel awards, two Nashville Music awards, and Peter Furler won the 2000 Award for Christian Songwriter of the Year!

From 1993 to the present, they have been on eleven major tours around the world spreading their gospel music to millions of fans. They have also just co-authored a book with the chief prophet of Every Nation, Jim Laffoon. It is a daily teaching by Laffoon.
