Born Lawrence "Krishna" Parker on August 20, 1965 is now known as KRS-One. KRS-One is another hip-hop singer and many say he is one of the greatest.
Being a member of the hip-hop crew Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One is known for both hardcore rap and socially conscious political rap. After the fatal shooting of Scott La Rock in 1987, Boogie Down Productions became much more political.
In 1993, he released his first solo album "Return of the Boom Bap". His second album, "KRS-One" was released in 1995 and it had a song on it titled "Channel Live" about the protest of Mumia Abu-Jamal an African American and Black Panther member who claims he is innocent of the murder of a police officer, but was later convicted.
In 1997, he shocked the world with his release of "I Got Next". This included songs with Blondie, Angie Martinez, and Redman. He took many fans by surprise with the singles. He then went on the radio and said the DJ and radio station were ignoring his style of hip-hop.
After much controversy, he moved to California and stayed there for two years and then reappeared and came out with a gospel album, "Spiritual Minded" which shocked many long time fans. He used to condemn Christianity as a "slave master religion"; and should not be followed by African Americans. He now has formed the temple of Hop and released a new album titled "Kristyles". He is at this time working on another album, in which he says, will have Marley Marl and expects to release by May 2006.
There was a lot of controversy when he made comments about 911. Sources say his comment, "we cheered when 911 happened". He was called an "anarchist" by the New York daily news and said, "If Osama Bin Laden ever buys a rap album, and he will probably start with a CD by KRS-One."
In 2005, he released a remix of a song called; "Bin Laden" which has digs against the United States, Reagan Doctrine, and the President for the September 11, 2001 attacks.
His music has also been in a Chrysler's Jeep Compass commercial that lasted 30 seconds
