Guns N' Roses Biography

The heavy metal band Guns N' Roses was formed in May of 1985 in Los Angeles, California, by Axl Rose and Tracii Guns, hence the name of a band.

Many people thought they were just another hard rock group among many others emerged in the 1980’s as a response to the pop dance that dominated that decade.

Guns N' Roses went beyond the expectations since their first works on stage and the recording studio sold over 90 million albums worldwide as of today.

They were not nice guys playing pristine music, but ugly bad boys playing dirty hard rock in the most pure and violent style characteristic in heavy rock bands from the 1970’s, but Guns N' Roses with a funny style that conquered parents and children alike.

Guns N' Roses first EP, "Like a Suicide" was released in 1986 under their own Suicide Records label. Later that year, after performing at the Troubadour, the band was signed to Geffen Records.

The band's full-length debut album, "Appetite for Destruction", was released in 1987, breaking into mainstream with numerous tours and live shows but no apparent success until one year later, after MTV started to air "Sweet Child O' Mine".

In 1988, "Appetite for Destruction" peaked number one at the Billboard charts, placing Guns N' Roses as one of the most popular and important bands in the history of music, that is eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in early 2012.

Guns N' Roses lineup has included through the years former members Axl Rose, Tracii Guns, Ole Beich, Rob Gardner, Buckethead, Duff McKagan, Josh Freese, Paul Tobias, Steven Adler, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Gilby Clarke, and Matt Sorum.

In addition, Dizzy Reed, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, Chris Pitman, Richard Fortus, Bryan Mantia, Bumblefoot, and Frank Ferrer are other band's members, but Guns N' Roses has also counted with numerous tour members, tour substitute members, and tour guest members.

The band released seven albums between 1987 and 2004 and won numerous awards during their career. Guns N' Roses' new album is scheduled to be released in November 2007.
