Green Day Biography

Green Day is an American rock band that came about in 1989 and is still going strong today. The band consists of Billie Joe Armstrong (who plays lead guitar and lead vocals), Mike Dirnt (Who plays Bass), and Tré Cool (who rocks out on the drums). Larry Livermore signed Green Day to a deal with Lookout Records in 1989. They released their first album "1,000 Hours" and not much later after that released their second LP entitled "39/Smooth" in 1990. Green Day later on released two more albums called "Slappy" and "Sweet Children". In 1991, Lookout records released "1,039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours" which is a mix of all of Green Days albums. Green Day then went on to do a nation-wide tour.

Green Day released another album entitled "Kerplunk!" This album sold around 50,000 copies which wasn't bad for the punk rock scene at the time. After the underground success of this album, they started being seen by other major and bigger labels. They left Lookout records on good terms and signed with Reprise Records. This is where they started recording their major label record "Dookie."

In 1994, "Dookie" was released and had commercial success thanks to MTV. The singles from the album were "Longview," "Basket Case," and "When I come around."

In 1995, Green Day released their album "Insomniac". They released the singles "Geek Stink Breath", "Brain Stew/Jaded," "Walking Contradiction," and "Stuck With."

Green day released a few other albums, which all did very well. In 2003, Green Day released their current album to date called "American Idiot". The singles released for this album were "American Idiot", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday", "Wake Me When September Ends" and "Jesus of Suburbia". All these singles made it somewhere at the top of one chart or another.

Green Day has been working lately with many charities for Hurricane Katrina and for environmental projects as well. There is no word yet as to when their next album will be coming out, but they are going to be working on a cover song of John Lennon's song "Working Class Heroes". Yet no word on a new album but you can rest assured they are still working on songs and albums to be released in the future.
