Furious Five Biography

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five were inducted into the hall of fame in 2007 by Jay Z, and became being the first hip-hop artists to be so honored. The group was formed in the late 1970's. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five did scratching in their music and came up with some of today's biggest phrases used in the hip-hop world.

Bobby Robinson's, Enjoy Records, first signed Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five and in the year 1979, they released their song "Supperrappin". After that they were signed to Sugar Hill Records and released many singles. They received a gold disc for their song "Freedom" and then later toured around the US. In 1981, their album "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel" was released and this really showed off Flashes natural skills. The biggest hit for Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five was their song "The Message" in 1982.

In 1983, Flash starred in a movie entitled "Wild Style" and in the process, he sued his record label Sugar Hill Records for royalties on his part. Flash and Melle Mel split; Flash went on with his group as just Grandmaster Flash and Mel went on with his group Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five. Mel released his song "White Lines" which became his signature song.

In 1987, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five came together for a charity concert and in 1988; they released an album, which did very bad on the charts and sales. In 1994, they had somewhat of another reunion even though group member Cowboy passed away in 1989.

Grandmaster Flash has a clothing line called "G.Phyre" and hosts a radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio. Flash has also won the BET award for I am a Hip Hop Icon.

Now on, with Melle Mel. He has a clothing line as well and has released children's books. Melle Mel released his first solo album in January of 2007 called "Muscles". The first single and video from the album is called M3 (The New Message), which was released on the 25th anniversary of "The Message" that the group did together.
