Frank Sinatra Biography

Nobody has said that talking about a legend is easy, but when it comes to Frank Sinatra the work is twice as hard because of the number of events from the man, singer, and actor that would become one of the most popular representative show men in America, also known as "The Voice" or just "Blue Eyes".

Born Francis Albert Sinatra on December 12, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey, Sinatra didn't graduate from school and began to sing in the early 1930’s, consolidating his career as a singer throughout the 1940’s, two decades referred to as "the swing era". With a jazz-influenced style, Sinatra developed a personal singing style between the late 1940 and mid-1950’s.

Sinatra saw the birth of rock & roll and young stars like Elvis Presley; however, he was adapting his music catalog to different trends accordingly during a 60-year career, while preserving his own well-defined singing style that continually attracted new listeners and fans of all ages.

Frank Sinatra hit the top-ten charts many times and sold millions of albums from 1940 to 1984, with a remarkable selection of songwriters that included Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern, among others.

He was also an Academy Award-winning actor that mostly played singing roles in many films, and it was in Hollywood where he announced his retirement after a concert in 1971, but in 1973 Ol' Blue Eyes was truly back.

Frank Sinatra is not only considered one of the most important and popular music figures of the 20th century, but also an American icon with an impressive discography spawning from 1943 to 1981 that is not limited to studio albums, but also including pre-releases and post-releases including soundtracks, live performances, singles, compilations, tribute albums, videos, TV shows, and films.

Frank Sinatra definitely retired from singing in 1995 after his 80th birthday and died of a heart attack on May 14, 1998 at age 82. Frank Sinatra was married to Ava Gardner, Mia Farrow, and Barbara Max, apart of first wife Nancy Barbato, with whom he has three children, singer Nancy Sinatra, Frank Jr., and Tina.
