Edwin McCain Biography

Mix together soul, jazz, rock, and folk and you will be obtaining the perfect blending that defines Edwin McCain's musical work. Edwin was born in Greenville, South Carolina on January 20, 1970. Edwin debuted in the musical scene in 1993 with "Solitude" an independent release album; however, there is an early production under the name of "Nomadic Logic" recorded as an Edwin McCain Band's album.

In fact, Edwin McCain Band does exist and it is the former and continuous companion of Eddie in both live performance and recordings. The actual band is integrated by both former members and new members Pete Riley (rhythm guitar & background vocals), Larry Chaney (lead guitar), Lee Hendricks (bass guitar), Craig Shields (saxophone & keyboards), and Dave Harrison (drums).

Since his early works, Edwin McCain has caught the eye of the masses because of his peculiar style evoking early troubadours and early storytellers of his hometown in South Carolina, the place in which he was raised and still lives, Edwin blends acoustic folk with soul music like anyone else.

Edwin McCain and his band have released a total of eight albums from 1991 to 2006. The list includes "Normadic Logic", "Solitude", "Honor Among Thieves", "Misguided Roses", "Messenger", "Far from Over", "The Austin Sessions", "Scream & Whisper" and "Lost in America", apart of two DVDs, "Mile Marker: Songs and Stories from the Acoustic Highway", and "Tinsel & Tap Shoes".

However, apart from his regular job as singer and songwriter, Edwin McCain also contributes to social causes, such as the relief of hurricane victims. He donates in full the profits of a song that he co-wrote and sang along with Maia Sharp, "Hold out a Hand", available for download at iTunes for 99 cents.

Actually, Edwin McCain continues touring extensively across the United States featuring full band shows and acoustic trio shows, currently scheduled throughout 2007 to February 2008. Edwin has also participated as an actor in TV shows and movies has been featured in documental series, and some of his songs are part of popular soundtracks. However, Edwin McCain is not a superstar. He defines himself as a troubadour situated between Earth, Wind, and Fire and the barefoot people singing Appalachian folk songs in South Carolina.
