Casting Crowns Biography

Mark Hall in Atlanta, Georgia formed casting crowns in 2003. His Christian band has a soft rock sound with members Mark Hall on lead vocals, Juan DeVevo on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and vocals. Modee DeVevo on violin and vocals, Hector Cervantes on electric guitar and vocals, Chris Huffman on bass guitar, Megan Garrett on keyboard, accordion, and vocals, and Andy Williams on drums.

In the beginning, they enjoyed playing their music and were more interested in ministering to others than becoming famous with their sound. Mark Miller, the lead singer of Sawyer Brown had one of their songs and held onto it. Mark went on vacation with a few of friends and brought the song along with him. It just so happened his friends was Steven Curtis Chapman and Provident label group president Terry Hemmings. He played the song for the duo and they were blown away. The pair had been searching for an honest group with Christian integrity.

When Mark visited with the members of Casting Crowns, their only concern was if they would still be able to be ministers. Mark laughed and said yes, but their congregation would be much larger!

The released their debut album, ‘Casting Crowns’ in 2003. This became one of the fastest selling albums on the Christian charts. They released ‘Lifesong’ in 2005 and this too debuted high at number nine. Both the albums have gone certified platinum. Then they released “The Altar and the Door”, which shot to number two on Billboard 200 Album and number one on the Hot Christian chart when it came out in 2007.

They have released seven singles and all of them have gone to number one on the charts. “Voice of truth” stayed on the charts for a remarkable fourteen weeks breaking the record. “Lifesong” was on for nine weeks and “East to West” was on for seven weeks.

Casting Crowns was on the Hot Christian Albums Chart for 104 weeks, on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for 88 weeks, while their singles “Lifesong” was on the Hot Christian Albums Chart for 104 weeks and is still going strong and it was the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for 75 weeks.
