Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are the two that make up the famous country duo, Brooks and Dunn.
Ronnie Dunn was born in Coleman, Texas on June 1, 1953 and Kix Brooks was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 12, 1955.
Ronnie attended 13 different schools in his 12 years of schooling. This was because his father was an oil worker and had to move often for employment reasons, while his mom was a conservative Baptist. He finally moved to Blanca, New Mexico where finished with a psychology major in 1974. He started to play in bars and clubs at night. He started his career as a solo artist and charted two singles in 1983, which were, “It’s written All over Your Face’ and “She Put the Sad in All His Songs”.
Ronnie has been married 17 years and has three kids, Whitney-26, Jesse-24, and Haley-12.
Kix Brooks has one sister and one half-sister, one-half brother and his dad adopted a son of his third wife. He graduated from Sewanee Military Academy and then went on to attend LA Tech as a theatre major. He left school for a while, worked with his dad in Alaska as a summer job, and then returned to LA Tech to finish his education.
With his dad’s insistence, he went on to pursuer his musical career and moved to Nashville in 1980. His then girlfriend followed him shortly after that. He married his long time sweetheart and they have one son and one daughter.
He started working for Tree Publishing as a staff songwriter. He recorded his first solo for Avion in 1983 titled, “Baby, When Your Heart Breaks Down”. This song was a huge failure so he went back to writing. Later he released a self-titled album for Capital Records.
In 1990, he met Ronnie Dunn and they began performing together. Their first hit song was “Brand New Man” from the album with the same title. They have gone upward ever since. One hit after another and this year (2007) they won their 14th awards for Top male Duo! The most of any Duo in history. They have sold well over 30 million albums.
